Entry-Level WordPress Developer Role
We are seeking an entry-level WordPress Developer, also known as a junior or intern, to join our team. This role focuses on building, customizing, and maintaining websites using the WordPress platform. At this foundational stage, the primary objective is learning, assisting senior developers, and successfully completing smaller tasks under guidance and supervision.
Core Responsibilities
Website Setup & Configuration
Install WordPress, configure themes, set up basic site settings, and prepare the website environment for further development.
Theme Customization
Modify existing WordPress themes using HTML, CSS, and basic PHP to align with design specifications, rather than developing themes from scratch.
Plugin Installation & Management
Install and configure essential plugins to enhance website functionality, including those for SEO, forms, security, and performance (e.g., Yoast SEO, Elementor).
Basic Front-End Development
Contribute to website layout, styling, responsiveness, and implement minor user interface (UI) improvements using HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript.
Content Updates
Upload and format content, including blog posts, images, and pages, within the WordPress dashboard to ensure accuracy and presentation.
Bug Fixing & Maintenance
Address and resolve minor website issues, such as layout discrepancies or plugin conflicts. Perform regular updates to plugins and themes to ensure smooth website operation.
Website Optimization
Implement basic speed optimization techniques, including image compression and caching. Ensure the website is fully responsive across all devices.
SEO Basics Implementation
Apply fundamental Search Engine Optimization (SEO) practices, such as adding meta tags, optimizing headings, and ensuring pages are structured in an SEO-friendly manner.
Learning & Growth Opportunities
- Develop a strong understanding of WordPress architecture, including themes, plugins, and template files.
- Acquire foundational knowledge of PHP for theme and plugin customization.
- Gain experience working with popular page builders and understanding custom theme development principles.
- Learn the basics of version control systems, such as Git.
Optional Responsibilities (Role Dependent)
- Assist in the creation of simple custom WordPress themes.
- Support the development and management of WooCommerce-based e-commerce websites.
- Undertake basic database operations, primarily with MySQL.
- Participate in website migration and backup processes.
