WHS Officer

Role Overview

The Site Safety Officer will partner with site operations teams within an Amazon Fulfillment Center (FC) to implement company safety policies and ensure adherence to all local and regional regulations. Utilizing lean principles and kaizen events, this role will drive continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing conditional and ergonomic risks within our processes, thereby fostering a safe and healthy work environment for our associates. The ideal candidate will build trust and confidence with operations teams, influencing change through comprehensive risk assessments and data analysis.

Key Responsibilities

• Communicate effectively, delivering clear and consistent messages both verbally and in writing.
• Train and mentor Operations Leaders on company safety policies, assisting site teams in integrating safety standards.
• Identify and incorporate best practices into company safety policies for ongoing improvement.
• Possess strong expertise in safety programs, environmental, and ergonomic knowledge, applying this knowledge in collaboration with operations.
• Lead and develop a safety team, including Safety Specialists, Safety Coordinators, and Onsite First Aid Associates.
• Create and execute leadership development plans for direct reports.
• Set clear expectations for the safety team, providing regular and constructive feedback to ensure adherence to Amazon Safety Professional core competencies.
• Ensure compliance with Amazon Safety Policies.
• Measure site performance against published safety policy requirements and develop action plans for any identified deficiencies.
• Deliver projects to Operations on time and with high quality.
• Analyze safety metrics and review incident trends (weekly and monthly) to justify resource allocation to areas with the highest safety risks.
• Conduct regular site safety audits to identify non-compliant equipment and processes, implementing solutions to mitigate risks and prevent injuries across other FCs.
• Audit recordkeeping practices and Global Safety Database entries for compliance with global safety standards and local regulations.
• Audit workplace organization and associate behaviors to ensure accuracy and consistency in training, auditing, and scoring methods.
• Manage and mentor Safety Associates within the assigned FC.
• Engage with fulfillment centers to gather input from safety teams, associates, and leaders on program improvement opportunities, maintaining open communication on progress and resolutions.
• Ensure site leadership and associates are trained and knowledgeable of their responsibilities under each policy. Audit the quality, delivery, and effectiveness of all required safety training.

Basic Qualifications

• Experience in Electrical/Mechanical/Electronics and Communication/Instrumentation and Controls.
• Minimum of 2 years of previous experience in Environment, Health & Safety (EHS).
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related Safety field.
• Experience working in reputable organizations.
• Experience managing multiple direct reports.
• Flexibility regarding work shifts.
• Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational setting.
• Nebosh/ADIS or any Bachelor's degree with relevant safety experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a Fulfillment Center, Manufacturing, Construction, or Supply Chain Management environment.
• Safety experience with a mix of exempt and non-exempt employees at a site with at least 200 people.
• Master's degree.
• Experience in a fast-paced, evolving, or growing organization.
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
• Ability to develop and implement department goals and strategies.
• Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem-solving abilities.
• Adaptability to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, and strategy.
