Web Frontend Engineer

As a Web Frontend Engineer at Canonical, you will design and implement well-tested and documented software using Web technologies or Flutter. Your responsibilities include debugging and resolving user-encountered issues, actively participating in our engineering process through code and architectural reviews, and collaborating with the community and colleagues on technical specifications. You will contribute to creating best-in-class technical documentation, continuously seeking improvements in engineering and operations practices. The role also involves deploying and operating services developed by the team and acting as a technical advocate to ensure product success. We are looking for individuals with an exceptional academic background and a degree in Computer Science or a STEM field, or a compelling alternative narrative. A strong drive, organizational skills, and the ability to deliver to schedule are essential, along with a professional demeanor. Experience in designing and writing high-quality web technologies, with a passion for TypeScript, React, or Flutter, is highly valued. An eye for accessibility and performance, along with professional written and spoken English, is required. Experience with Linux, particularly Debian or Ubuntu, and excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability are expected. We seek individuals who are passionate, thoughtful, self-motivated, result-oriented, and possess excellent communication and presentation skills. The role may require travel twice a year for company events, up to two weeks each. Nice-to-have skills include experience with container technologies like LXD, Docker, and Kubernetes, attention to detail in user-centric UI development, REST API design, development and governance, and experience in performance engineering and security.
