UX Design Lead, Vice President

Job Description

Transform financial management tools with the same dedication and user-centric approach as consumer software. As a UX Design Lead at JPMorgan Chase, you will be pivotal in reshaping product development, acting as an equal partner with Product Management and Engineering. This role is central to a multi-year initiative to pioneer the fin-tech future of institutional banking, integrating emerging technologies like blockchain, data science, machine learning, and cybersecurity into our Payments products.

On our Payments Operations team, you will leverage your deep understanding of customer and business needs to foster collaboration, drive thoughtful planning across product development, simplify complex user experiences, and actively participate in all facets of design, from initial research and strategy to ideation, prototyping, testing, and final design delivery.

Our team, embedded within JP Morgan's institutional bank serving corporate clients, utilizes cutting-edge technologies to enhance and refine the essential tools that maintain our industry leadership.

As a valued member of a multidisciplinary team including User Research, Service Design, Visual Design, Product Managers, Business Stakeholders, and Engineers, you will work closely with business units and users, applying best-practice User-Centered Design to deliver innovative solutions for complex challenges.

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee delivery for multiple concurrent projects, ensuring efficient and scalable execution of design direction and providing clear status updates to leadership.
  • Contribute to design solutions that adhere to a common technology platform and brand guidelines, ensuring proficiency and sustainability.
  • Engage in upfront user research to gain insights into user needs and behaviors, and participate in usability testing to validate solutions, with support from Experience Researchers.
  • Enhance communication skills by presenting work to a diverse range of business stakeholders and the wider product and technology organization.
  • Create designs using wireframes, visuals, and prototypes at varying fidelities. Ideate and conceptualize solutions before full delivery milestone definition, leading workshops and collaborative design sessions.
  • Deliver user-friendly solutions that achieve measurable results, defining success criteria and conducting user validation throughout the design process.
  • Apply design thinking expertise to plan and facilitate ideation and alignment workshops with project stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with and influence Product Owners, Business Sponsors, Strategists, Developers, and the design team, playing a key role in cultivating a design-centric culture and shaping end-to-end product experiences.
  • Work closely with our Design System to contribute patterns and aid in the development and refinement of our Visual Design Language.
  • Develop next-generation experiences by applying expertise in Information Architecture, Interaction Design, and Data Visualization.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant design discipline (e.g., Interaction Design, HCI, User Experience Design), certification from a credible bootcamp, or equivalent work experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Ability to self-direct and guide others in planning, structuring work, and ensuring quality execution; potential for managing junior designers, including 1:1s, professional development, and performance reviews.
  • Proven experience leading programs through full product development cycles, including discovery, concepting, prototyping, specifications, and enablement.
  • Prior experience leading design teams (UX Designers, UX Researchers, Visual/Service Designers) and collaborating cross-functionally with senior Product Managers and Engineering leads.
  • Expertise in Interaction Design, with strong skills in Visual/UI Design or Information Architecture; intermediate proficiency in adjacent areas like User Research, UX Writing, Prototyping, and Service Design.
  • Strong facilitation skills with experience using various methods and techniques for complex design-led workshops.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive new business thinking and strategy through user-centered design initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience designing applications within complex business domains, such as financial services.
  • Advocacy for Accessibility Guidelines and Inclusive Design practices.
  • Comfort and experience in structuring and planning design work within cross-functional environments.
  • Ability to articulate how an understanding of technical constraints and opportunities informed design solutions; familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, frameworks like React, and mobile UI standards.
