About the Role

We are seeking talented engineers to join our Ubuntu Engineering organization. This role is ideal for professionals with mid-level experience (2-4 years post-university) who possess a deep passion for open source software.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, build, and ship new foundational systems software using Rust, Go, Python, Flutter, or C/C++.
  • Package, integrate, test, and upload open source software to the Ubuntu repositories (Debian/Snap).
  • Debug system-level issues and deliver robust production solutions.
  • Author technical documentation for upstream projects and community use.
  • Collaborate within a globally distributed team across various time zones.

You may contribute to one of our four core pillars:

  1. Foundations: Maintaining architectures, package managers, compilers, and toolchains.
  2. Server: Leading the evolution of Ubuntu Server distribution for data centers and cloud.
  3. Desktop: Driving future immutable desktop experiences (Ubuntu Core Desktop, WSL).
  4. Distro Engineering & Automation: Managing repositories and build machinery.
