About the Role
We are seeking a Data Center Technician to ensure all activities in our Chicago facility conform to industry best practices. As a critical member of our team, you will manage daily operations, oversee security protocols, assist engineers, and maintain accurate records and inventory.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the first line escalation point for serious incidents or technical issues within the Data Center.
- Execute Maintenance Procedures (MACs) across MPOEs, MMRs, and access centers for both internal and external customers.
- Manage asset lifecycle: updating records, tracking locations, and determining status (deployed, ceased, etc.).
- Conduct daily security checks to ensure policy adherence and maintain Data Center cleanliness standards through QA inspections in halls and access centers.
- Record details of all hardware deliveries received from Supply & Recovery (S&R).
- Control Data Center stocks including copper/fiber patch cables, cleaning accessories, labels, etc., ensuring proper reporting.
Requirements
Mandatory:
• 2+ years of experience working in data center environments.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM databases (2+ years).
• Knowledge of hardware manufacturer installation standards, copper cabling, and fiber optic installations.
• Strong prioritization skills and advanced troubleshooting abilities.
• Experience managing 3rd party contract staff within the DC environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for interacting at all levels.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred:
• Certified Data Center Technician (CDCT)
• HP Accredited Platform Specialist
• Systimax Copper Installation ND5541 & Installation/Maintenance ND3341 certifications.
• Corning NPI Membership holder.
• ITIL V3 Foundation Certificate and BICSI Practices knowledge.
• Basic network experience with Ciena, Juniper, and Force 10 hardware.
