About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Technical Lead to drive the development of OpenBlue, Johnson Controls' next-generation smart-building platform. This role combines strong individual contributor capabilities with leadership responsibilities. You will own technical architecture and design decisions while actively writing production code.

Responsibilities

• Drive end-to-end feature development from concept to production deployment.
• Take ownership of architectural and detailed design for microservices, REST/gRPC APIs, and web applications.
• Evaluate new technologies through rigorous proofs of concept (PoCs).
• Maintain high code quality by writing well-tested software as a hands-on individual contributor.
• Establish engineering standards via thorough code reviews and adherence to best practices.
• Ensure all solutions are secure, scalable, and performant under load.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery cycles.
• Collaborate with Product, UX, QA, and DevOps teams across global locations to plan and execute work effectively.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software development experience with a focus on full-stack engineering.
• Demonstrated track record in making architectural decisions and leading technical delivery initiatives.
• Expert-level proficiency in TypeScript, React, and Node.js (specifically NestJS).
• Solid expertise in designing microservices architectures, REST/gRPC APIs, and complex PostgreSQL data models.
• Comprehensive understanding of web security principles, automated testing strategies, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with containerization using Docker and orchestration via Kubernetes, preferably within the Azure cloud environment.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Apache Kafka or Redis for real-time data streaming applications.
• Background in building multi-tenant SaaS platforms.
• Relevant experience in Internet of Things (IoT) solutions or Building Management Systems (BMS).
