About the Role

As Speechify's Android app experiences significant growth and holds the position of the most-used text-to-speech application in the Google Play Store, we are seeking a Senior Android Engineer. This role is crucial for supporting our expanding user base and driving innovation through new and exciting projects.

What You'll Do

• Take ownership of major features, collaborating closely with the design team to deliver high-quality, impactful functionalities within the Android application.
• Play a key role in shaping the future direction and development of our Android engineering team.
• Manage, maintain, and enhance the reliability metrics for critical features.
• Engage in cross-functional discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams to ensure cohesive development.
• Conduct pull request reviews and provide support to fellow team members.
• Address and resolve critical issues, navigating and overcoming unexpected challenges.
• Oversee feature releases and ensure the timely provision of nightly builds for the QA team.

What We're Looking For

• A minimum of 5 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proficiency with core Android components and frameworks.
• Demonstrable experience in building or significantly contributing to at least one Android application.
• A strong sense of product design intuition and user empathy.
• A drive to push the boundaries of Android UI/UX design and implementation.
• A solid understanding of testing methodologies and best practices for writing effective tests.
• Self-motivation to improve the application and codebase beyond the defined specifications.
• Extensive experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM architectural patterns, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android Animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• A user-centric approach to problem-solving.
• A proactive attitude and receptiveness to continuous feedback from leadership.

Bonus Points

• Experience in building, maintaining, or contributing to open-source Android projects.
• Familiarity with iOS, Web development, or NodeJS.
