Systems Engineer – XR R&D

Qualcomm XR Labs India is actively expanding its capabilities to deliver cutting-edge Extended Reality (XR) solutions. To support this growth and enhance our offerings in the XR domain, we are seeking a skilled Systems Architect to spearhead the development of next-generation technologies and architectures. This role will be instrumental in shaping the future of Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Mixed Reality (MR) use cases.

The XR Labs team focuses on researching and developing algorithms and system designs to create seamless immersive experiences on AR glasses and VR Head-Mounted Displays (HMDs). Our innovation encompasses developing algorithms to overcome XR challenges, prototyping solutions, optimizing performance, conducting thorough testing, and enabling the commercialization of XR systems. We are looking for a motivated engineer with a strong foundation in graphics concepts, practical experience in graphics implementation, general software development expertise, and a proven ability to lead a small engineering team. Responsibilities will include the design, development, optimization, and testing of graphics components for real-time virtual and augmented reality applications, as well as their integration into relevant software platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

• Contribute to a world-class XR team focused on researching and developing mobile Augmented and Virtual Reality enabling technologies.
• Develop and deploy low-latency, high-quality rendering algorithms optimized for mobile GPUs.
• Analyze XR algorithms and translate them into standard graphics constructs.
• Create custom graphics content for rigorous algorithm testing, benchmarking, and validation.
• Collaborate across functional teams to define architecture, APIs, design specifications, and project schedules.
• See your designs implemented in industry-leading chips powering next-generation AR, VR devices, and related markets.

Required Skills:

• Proficient understanding of fundamental graphics concepts, including perspective and orthographic geometry, coordinate transformations, image filtering, anti-aliasing, and ray-tracing.
• Strong experience in graphics implementation and mapping algorithms to GPUs, including developing various types of shaders.
• Proficiency in C++ and experience with Matlab/Python.
• Experience implementing graphics shaders, including compute shaders, using OpenGL, DirectX, or Vulkan.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• A Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of industry experience, a Master's degree with 6+ years of industry experience, or a PhD with 3+ years of industry experience.
• A degree in Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience in software development, including testing and debugging on XR devices, mobile platforms, or other embedded systems.
• Experience developing content using Unity, Unreal Engine, or similar platforms.
• Understanding of Machine Learning (ML) concepts as applied to content rendering.
