Staff Software Engineer

About This Role

As a Staff Software Engineer at GitLab Security Foundations, you will lead two critical areas: the data layer for vulnerability/dependency management capabilities and services moving outside the monolith. You will design backend systems using Ruby on Rails and PostgreSQL to ingest, store, index, and query security report data with third-party integrations.

Your Responsibilities

• Lead large technical deliverables from initial problem definition through delivery across multiple quarters.
• Design scalable backend systems for vulnerability management including ingestion, storage, indexing, querying, and API integrations.
• Build modular services using Ruby on Rails (legacy) or greenfield technologies like Go/Rust where appropriate.
• Collaborate with product, design, frontend, and engineering partners to shape technical roadmaps and resolve constraints.
• Apply a security mindset when designing systems that handle malicious packages and vulnerable dependencies.
