Staff Software Engineer

Okta is seeking a Staff Software Engineer – Privileged Access Management (PAM) to join a high-performing, elite engineering team. This role is pivotal in securing and managing privileged access for organizations, enabling them to embrace AI and cloud technologies with confidence. As a staff-level full-stack engineer, you will design, develop, and deliver cutting-edge PAM solutions that address critical security and operational challenges at scale.

Key Responsibilities:

• Innovate with AI: Leverage advanced AI pair-programming tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Anthropic Claude) to accelerate the development of secure, enterprise-grade PAM products while maintaining high code quality.
• Full-Stack Development: Design, build, and maintain end-to-end features using modern JavaScript (React, Angular, or Vue) for the frontend and cloud-native backend technologies (preferably Go, Java, or C++).
• Technical Leadership: Lead technical design for key initiatives, ensuring scalability, redundancy, and multi-tenancy. Drive the evaluation, development, and rollout of new features and platform components.
• UI/UX Excellence: Build reusable, performant UI components to enhance the no-code builder experience for Okta’s PAM solutions.
• Performance & Security: Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize services, resolving bottlenecks and upholding high programming standards through comprehensive testing. Evaluate system performance to support Okta’s future business needs.
• Collaboration & Mentorship: Work closely with architects, QA, product owners, security engineers, and operations teams. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers.
• Cloud & Security Expertise: Develop and deploy cloud-based privileged access management solutions with a deep understanding of network security, authentication, and authorization. Experience with AWS, PostgreSQL, Redis, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, Kafka, and Docker is highly valued.

Requirements:

• Experience: 9+ years of extensive programming experience in modern languages (Go preferred, but Java/C++ acceptable), with a strong foundation in computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms).
• Frontend & Backend: 4+ years of experience with modern JavaScript frameworks (React, Angular, Vue) and cloud-native backend development.
• Database & Cloud: Proficiency in PostgreSQL (or equivalent) with optimization experience. Familiarity with AWS, Redis, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, Kafka, and Docker.
• Security & Agile: Demonstrated experience in security-focused software development, REST API fundamentals, and Agile methodologies. Prior experience at security firms is a plus.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science (or equivalent); master’s degree preferred.
