Staff Software Engineer - Java

PayPal is seeking a Staff Software Engineer with expertise in Java to join our team in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. In this role, you will act as a project or system leader, guiding other engineers and defining technical tasks to achieve project objectives. You will proactively enhance existing structures and processes, demonstrating a customer-centric mindset and ensuring designs and implementations meet defined specifications. Ownership of end-to-end quality throughout the software development lifecycle is crucial. You will collaborate with core platform and infrastructure teams to support payment solutions and bridge the gap between business, product, and technology to understand requirements and propose implementation options. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, manages changing business needs, and possesses a minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's degree or equivalent. Strong programming skills in Java/J2EE, Spring, and Hibernate are essential, along with exposure to server-side scripting technologies and experience with REST APIs, Web Services, Unit Testing, and build tools. Hands-on experience with databases like MySQL/Oracle and a solid understanding of web-based programming languages are required. Excellent object-oriented design and analysis skills, along with experience in refactoring codebases, are vital. Prior experience in building the complete lifecycle of transaction processing, preferably in the payments domain, is highly valued.
