Staff Software Engineer

We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer specializing in Java Backend Architecture, with expertise in SAML, OAuth, and Security, to join our team in Hyderabad, India. In this role, you will be instrumental in building high-quality, scalable, and reusable code by enforcing best practices in software engineering architecture and processes, including code reviews and unit testing.

You will collaborate with product owners to understand detailed requirements and take ownership of your code from design through implementation, test automation, and delivery of a high-quality product. A key aspect of this role involves designing software that is intuitive for customers to extend and customize, meeting their specific needs. You will contribute to the development of new products and features while also enhancing our existing product suite. Furthermore, you will serve as a mentor to colleagues, fostering knowledge sharing within the team.

The ideal candidate will have experience integrating AI into work processes, decision-making, or problem-solving, utilizing AI-powered tools, automating workflows, analyzing AI-driven insights, or exploring AI's potential impact. Familiarity with AI productivity tools like Cursor or Windsurf is a plus.

We require 10 to 13 years of experience with Java or a similar object-oriented language, along with a strong background in Authentication and Security, including familiarity with SAML, OIDC, and OAuth.

A passion for JavaScript and the web as a platform, with a focus on reusability and componentization, is essential. You should possess extensive experience with data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, design patterns, and performance/scale considerations. Experience with modern UI frameworks such as Angular, React, or Vue is also desirable.

You will need strong analytical and design skills, and the ability to manage projects with significant technical risk at a team level. This role is based in Hyderabad, India, and aligns with ServiceNow's commitment to fostering a flexible and trust-based distributed work environment.
