Position Description

The Okta platform offers comprehensive directory services, single sign-on, strong authentication, provisioning, workflow automation, and reporting. It operates on a secure, reliable, and audited cloud platform, integrating deeply with on-premises applications, directories, and identity management systems. We are seeking an experienced Staff Software Engineer for our Advanced Apps team. This role focuses on enhancing and managing connectors to SaaS applications such as Workday, Salesforce, GCP, and AWS. You will collaborate closely with the Lifecycle Management (LCM) team to automate Joiner, Mover, and Leaver processes. Your work will involve building, designing, and maintaining connectors that enable customers to import and provision identity and entitlements to their SaaS applications, ensuring they match application features and scale effectively.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Collaborate with senior engineering teams on major development projects, including design and implementation.
• Interface with cross-functional teams including Architects, QA, Product Management, Technical Support, Documentation, and UX to understand application-specific protocols and build connectors.
• Analyze and refine requirements with Product Management.
• Conduct rapid prototyping to validate scale and performance.
• Design and implement features with comprehensive functional and unit tests, including monitoring and alerts.
• Perform code reviews, analysis, and performance tuning.
• Work with the QA team to define and implement thorough test coverage for application-specific features.
• Troubleshoot and support customer issues, debugging using logs from systems like Splunk and Syslogs.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Proven experience building software systems for managing and deploying reliable, performant infrastructure and product code at scale on cloud infrastructure.
• 8+ years of Software Development experience in Java, with significant experience in SCIM and Spring Boot preferred.
• 5+ years of development experience building services, internal tools, and frameworks.
• 2+ years of experience automating and deploying large-scale production services in AWS, GCP, or similar cloud environments.
• Deep understanding of infrastructure-level technologies including caching, stream processing, and resilient architectures.
• Experience with RESTful APIs and SOAP APIs.
• Ability to work effectively in distributed teams with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Experience leading and mentoring junior engineers.

Nice to Haves

• Experience with server-side technologies such as caching, asynchronous processing, and multi-threading.
• Experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD).
• Experience with UI development or JavaScript frameworks.
• Knowledge of Identity and Access Management protocols and technologies, including OAuth, OpenID Connect, SAML, and SCIM.

Education and Training

• B.S. in Computer Science or a related field.
