Staff Software Engineer

Cloudera is seeking an experienced and driven Staff Backend Engineer to join its Anywhere Cloud team in Bengaluru, Karnataka. This role focuses on delivering critical backend services for a hybrid cloud platform that enables data and AI workloads to run anywhere, without friction or vendor lock-in. The platform offers the benefits of public cloud – cost efficiency, scalability, elasticity, and agility – across public clouds, private data centers, and the edge, powered by Kubernetes.

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will architect, build, and improve scalable backend systems and APIs, driving performance, reliability, and security across Kubernetes-based services. You will implement robust testing frameworks, optimize for cost and performance (e.g., token usage, latency, throughput), and shape data excellence through data contracts, feedback loops, and feature stores. This role also involves providing technical leadership, mentoring senior engineers, and collaborating across functions to translate product intent into technical plans and influence roadmaps with data-driven insights.

The ideal candidate will have 8+ years of software engineering experience building large-scale distributed production systems, with expertise in Go and cloud-native architectures. Familiarity with the AI/ML ecosystem, including LLMs, vector databases, RAG, and prompt engineering, is preferred. A strong security and privacy mindset, with knowledge of data governance and PII handling, is also essential.

Experience in designing reusable AI workflow primitives, building tracing/metrics/logging for AI systems, advanced Kubernetes design, and managing machine learning workloads on Kubernetes are considered significant advantages.
