Horizon3 is a fast-growing, remote cybersecurity company dedicated to enabling organizations to proactively find, fix, and verify exploitable attack vectors before criminals exploit them. Our flagship product, NodeZero™, delivers production-safe autonomous pentests that scale across internal, external, cloud, and hybrid environments.
Your Impact
- Database Architecture: Set technical direction for Horizon3's database systems including schema design, data modeling standards, indexing strategies, and query contract design.
- Performance Engineering: Own query performance across the platform by identifying slow queries, analyzing execution plans, implementing fixes, and designing observability systems to catch regressions early.
- Reliability & Operations: Ensure reliability for all data stores through replication strategies, failover procedures, backup validation, capacity planning, and incident response management.
- Migration Engineering: Design and own the migration framework enabling safe schema evolution in production with zero-downtime migrations.
About You
You bring 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with deep specialization in database systems. You possess expert-level PostgreSQL proficiency, including tuning complex query plans and managing replication topologies.
You have a deep understanding of architecture trade-offs: normalization vs denormalization, indexing strategies (partial, composite), partitioning, and connection pooling at scale. Experience designing zero-downtime migration workflows in high-volume environments is essential.
You are experienced with graph databases like Neo4j for NodeZero's asset model and time-series or columnar stores such as ClickHouse or TimescaleDB.
You have a track record running database systems in Kubernetes or cloud-managed environments at production scale, preferably using Go or Python to build tooling.
Leadership & Mentorship
- Serve as the database expert for application teams, reviewing schemas and ORM usage.
Mentor P4 engineers through design reviews and code reviews. Be the go-to person for complex database problems.
