Staff Software Engineer

About this Role

We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer (AgentOps) to set the technical direction, architect future state platforms, and prove emerging technologies at Pearson's AgentOps Engineering team. This role balances deep hands-on coding with leadership responsibilities.

• Technical Leadership: Set direction for agentic AI orchestration, runtime, skills, and evaluation frameworks.
  Simplify Complexity: Translate complex system requirements into reliable architectures that others can build upon.
  Culture Carriership: Mentor IC20-IC25 engineers through design reviews and code pairing without direct management authority.
• Hands-on Execution: Define patterns for multi-agent orchestration, routing (intent classification, capability dispatch), resilience (checkpointing, non-deterministic recovery), and safe agent actions.
  Demonstrate Skill: Build the hardest parts yourself using reference implementations rather than just diagrams.
• Innovation: Scout new frameworks and models; create rapid POCs/MVPs to de-risk technology before full investment. Deepen standards for tool/context interoperability (e.g., MCP) and AI observability.
