Staff Node.js Engineer

Tether Operations Limited is seeking a highly skilled Staff Node.js Engineer to join a dynamic team operating at the intersection of distributed systems and GPU infrastructure. This role is crucial for powering compute-intensive workloads at scale. The successful candidate will own backend architecture for services orchestrating GPU resources, managing infrastructural workflows, and exposing them via high-performance APIs. This is a senior technical position with significant architectural responsibilities, including driving system design decisions, leading complex backend initiatives, and shaping the platform's long-term technical strategy. The ideal candidate is comfortable with ambiguity, possesses strong, experience-backed opinions, and can operate effectively in environments requiring close interaction with GPU and infrastructure workloads.

Responsibilities:

• Architect, design, and implement scalable Node.js backend services forming the core of the team's platform.
• Lead system design for complex, distributed backend initiatives from inception to production rollout.
• Make critical technical decisions regarding the performance, reliability, and scalability of services interacting with GPU management and low-level infrastructure.
• Collaborate closely with infrastructure, platform, and product teams to align backend architecture with business objectives.
• Establish and enforce high engineering standards, including code quality, testing, observability, and documentation.
• Mentor senior and mid-level engineers, and contribute to technical hiring and team development.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, scaling limitations, and architectural debt.

Requirements:

• Over 7 years of professional backend engineering experience with deep Node.js expertise.
• Proven ability to architect and scale distributed backend systems in production.
• Strong system design skills, including microservices, API design, data modeling, asynchronous patterns, and event-driven architectures.
• Experience with relational and non-relational databases, message queues, and caching layers.
• Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal).
• Ability to work within a timezone that has 4–6 hours of overlap with IST working hours (10 am–7 pm IST).

Preferred Qualifications (Bonus):

• Knowledge of networking fundamentals such as TCP/IP, gRPC, custom protocols, and performance tuning.
• Experience with virtualization and containerization technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, VMs, and hypervisors.
• Exposure to GPU infrastructure, GPU scheduling, or compute orchestration systems.
• Experience operating backend systems in infrastructure-intensive or hardware-adjacent domains.
• Prior experience in fintech, cryptocurrency, or blockchain environments.
