Staff Engineer

We seek a Staff Engineer to architect the future of trust, controls, and safety at HighLevel. You will lead technical direction for real-time platforms securing critical workflows like signups, SaaS checkouts, user management, and communications across our global infrastructure processing over 160M daily events.

• Database Architecture: Redesign data models, optimize queries/indexing for MongoDB, Firestore, and Elasticsearch at scale (billions of documents).
• Reliability & Performance: Eliminate bottlenecks, ensure replication health, and enforce predictable latency.
• System Design: Define clear contracts between storage, cache, APIs with robust fault isolation.
• Observability: Build comprehensive visibility including metrics, traces, logs, and cluster dashboards.
• Culture & Leadership: Drive RFCs/ADRs, mentor engineers across squads, write production code, debug issues, and lead by technical example.

• Pedigree: 8+ years building high-scale backend systems with strict performance standards (e.g., p99 regressions unacceptable).
• Distributed Systems: Deep expertise in concurrency, event-driven architectures, and consistency primitives.
• Financial Rigour: Experience in metering, ledgers, payment gateways where code correctness has direct financial impact (e.g., preventing accidental billing or abuse costs).
• Data Modeling: Strong relational/NoSQL experience with complex transactional data and streaming stores.
• Policy & Rules: Design systems that change via configuration rather than versioning, ensuring safe rollouts.
• Judgement: Ability to enforce thresholds stopping harm without punishing legitimate customers.

• Elasticsearch cluster management (multi-tenant indexing).
• Olap systems like ClickHouse or Flink for analytics.
• Open-source contributions on database performance/systems design.
