Staff Engineer I

Role Overview:

The Staff Engineer I is a senior individual contributor reporting to the Engineering Manager at Bain & Company. You will lead technical delivery for complex enterprise-scale applications, aligning development with product vision while mentoring team members.

Key Responsibilities (75% Technical Delivery):

• Provide module-level leadership on Agile teams building browser-based and mobile solutions using modern tech stacks including AI-assisted tools.
• Take ownership of complex components within sprints, defining technical approaches to meet product strategy goals.
• Collaborate with Product Owners and Managers to define roadmaps and backlogs based on business domain expertise.
• Architect scalable systems using microservices patterns on Microsoft Azure or equivalent cloud platforms.
• Spearhead secure software development practices, including responsible AI usage and data protection for prompts/generations.
• Create comprehensive end-to-end test plans ensuring zero-defect delivery across unit testing (xUnit, pytest), integration, and load testing scenarios.
• Manage database administration tasks on SQL Server or PostgreSQL while contributing to DevOps pipelines via Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.

Tech Stack & Research:

Demonstrate proficiency in Python, .NET Core, Java/C#, Angular/React, and T-SQL. Lead research initiatives integrating Gen AI, LLMs, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and vector databases to enhance future product capabilities.

Impact & Mentoring:

• Mentor 1-3 junior engineers on technical growth and agile best practices.
• Foster a culture of continuous learning by sharing new technologies and methodologies with the broader software group.
• Solve complex problems to deliver value for Bain's global users while maintaining high service quality.
