Staff Engineer

Responsibilities

• Spearhead platform reliability by ensuring high availability, stability, and scalability for data operations. Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and drive continuous improvements in production environments.
• Architect and deliver critical platform features, making strategic decisions on data storage solutions (batch vs. streaming), formats like Delta Lake or Iceberg, and orchestration tools such as Airflow and Argo.
• Optimize system performance through effective partitioning, indexing, and resource management while implementing FinOps-aligned strategies to control costs via robust observability.
• Foster platform governance by treating the infrastructure as a product. Define KPIs for adoption, track usage metrics, and balance usability with security standards.
• Uphold engineering excellence by writing modular, testable code. Develop comprehensive CI/CD pipelines, implement structured logging, and embed observability into every component.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to own stakeholder communications, drive sprint execution, produce documentation, mentor junior engineers, and influence technical best practices across the organization.

Requirements

• Mandatory: 7-10 years of experience in platform or data engineering roles.
• Core Skills: Deep proficiency with Java, Kafka, Spring Boot, and distributed systems architecture.
• System Design Capability: Ability to design scalable, fault-tolerant systems incorporating efficient storage strategies, caching mechanisms, and cost-control measures.
• Governance & Reliability Expertise: Experience applying data access policies, managing SLAs/SLOs, handling schema evolution, and implementing monitoring/auditing frameworks for incident management.
• Leadership Attributes: Proven ability to take initiative, prioritize business impact, mentor team members, and drive accountability in technical decision-making. Experience with model serving frameworks is a plus.
