Staff Communication Systems Engineer - Bengaluru/Bangalore, India
The Communication Systems (ComSys) group at MaxLinear is at the forefront of designing and developing advanced signal processing and communication algorithms for cutting-edge Wireless, Wireline, and Optical Communication ICs. As a Communication Systems Staff Engineer in our Bengaluru/Bangalore team, you will play a pivotal role in architecture definition, algorithm development, and system-level validation of high-performance communication systems. You will collaborate closely with RTL, firmware, RF, and validation teams, transforming theoretical concepts into tangible silicon solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and analyze Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and digital communication algorithms for broadband, datacom, and optical communication systems.
- Develop bit-accurate system models using C++, MATLAB, or Octave, and validate performance against industry standards and specific requirements.
- Translate complex algorithmic concepts into precise specifications for RTL and firmware implementation.
- Conduct comprehensive system-level simulations, including the integration of channel models, RF impairments, and PHY/MAC interactions.
- Support laboratory bring-up, characterization, and debug activities using essential tools such as spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and evaluation platforms.
- Foster collaboration with cross-functional teams and actively participate in architecture reviews and critical design trade-off discussions.
Required Qualifications:
- A strong foundational understanding of Digital Signal Processing and Digital Communications.
- Hands-on experience in translating theoretical concepts into practical simulations using C++, MATLAB, or Octave.
- Proficiency in Linux environments and scripting tools.
- Familiarity with RTL/Firmware constraints and the system-to-implementation handoff process.
- A Master's degree with 2-4 years of relevant experience, or a Ph.D. with a strong applied research background in a related field.
Preferred Experience:
- Modem design experience (wired, wireless, or optical).
- Expertise in resampling, filtering, and signal conditioning techniques.
- Knowledge of error-correction coding schemes such as LDPC, Turbo, or RS.
- Experience with PHY/MAC interaction or MAC protocol design.
- Understanding of Quality of Service (QoS) mechanisms in packet-switched networks.
- Familiarity with RF impairment and calibration algorithms, including blind algorithms for tracking impairments (e.g., BSS).
- Proficiency in Python-based modeling using NumPy, SciPy, and scripting.
