Staff AI Engineer

About This Role

Teradata is pioneering the next generation of AI-native analytics, enabling customers to deploy production-grade Generative AI systems directly within their enterprise data ecosystems. We are seeking a Staff AI Engineer to lead in designing and building Teradata's vector store and retrieval infrastructure.

• Own the architecture and technical direction of our vector store and retrieval stack, powering RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), multimodal AI, agentic workflows, and semantic search at enterprise scale.
• Define design patterns and best practices for advanced AI systems including tool calling, planning, memory management, and orchestration.
• Design core vector store capabilities covering indexing strategies, storage layouts, retrieval algorithms, and robust APIs.
• Build comprehensive RAG evaluation frameworks that assess relevance, faithfulness, accuracy, and cost efficiency.

You will collaborate with world-class AI architects at our Silicon Valley location to build foundational enterprise AI systems. You'll work cross-functionally with product managers, domain specialists in regulated industries, and infrastructure teams responsible for scaling AI workloads. Qualifications

• Minimum: BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or related field; 8+ years of software engineering experience with ownership of complex systems. Deep expertise required in vector search and information retrieval.
