Sr. Software Development Engineer

About the Role

Join Avalara's engineering team as a Sr. Software Development Engineer (Bar Raiser) to shape the future of global tax compliance products used by thousands of customers worldwide. You will work on high-volume systems using Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, C#, and React within our modern cloud environment.

Your Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable software solutions for Avalara's 1099 product suite in production environments.
• Collaborate with international teams including U.S.-based engineers to deliver secure, high-performing AI-powered solutions.
• Troubleshoot complex production issues using strong debugging skills and leverage AI tools for root cause analysis and documentation generation.
• Mentor peers, drive operational excellence, and improve systems through clear architecture discussions and continuous improvement initiatives.

Technical Requirements

• 6+ years of experience with Ruby on Rails or C# development.
• Strong expertise in REST APIs, CI/CD pipelines (GitLab, Terraform), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Demonstrated ability to secure web applications and build fault-tolerant, low-latency systems.
