About the Role: SR R&D/Product Development Engineer at TE Connectivity in Bengaluru
TE Connectivity is seeking a Senior R&D/Product Development Engineer in Bengaluru to drive innovation in Power Cable Assembly products for data communication and hyperscale computing. This role involves managing the complete product development lifecycle, from understanding customer needs to final product release and sustenance. You will be instrumental in providing customer-centric solutions, developing product specifications, and creating essential engineering documentation in line with TE's system procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the entire product development journey: Voice of Customer (VOC), ideation, conceptualization, specification, 3D design, prototyping, testing, qualification, project execution, and end-of-life management.
- Cultivate a deep understanding of market and customer needs by bridging business engineering and customer engineering teams.
- Collaborate closely with customers, sales, and product managers to gather clear VOC, perform engineering evaluations, and develop compelling proposals.
- Maintain a comprehensive system-level understanding of customer applications and cable design principles to meet and exceed customer expectations.
- Adhere to the LEANPD Project Process, ensuring timely, high-quality, and budget-compliant project completion from a Product Development Engineering (PDE) perspective. Drive stage-gate reviews to maintain milestone commitments.
- Provide robust technical support to customers, sales, product management, and plant teams, including testing, analysis, troubleshooting, and verification.
- Engage with global manufacturing, procurement, and suppliers to achieve TE's technical, quality, and cost objectives.
- Introduce groundbreaking technologies by fostering technical partnerships with global customers and TE's Global Competency Centers to drive business revenue and growth.
- Apply engineering best practices to optimize costs and sustain existing products to meet customer cost targets.
Education and Experience:
- A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
- Proficiency in product realization and development phases.
- Expertise in state-of-the-art design tools, including 3D CAD, modeling, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), electrical & electronic design, and simulation.
- Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, molding, stamping, plating) is a plus.
- Familiarity with material properties (metal/plastic) is advantageous.
- Solid understanding of power distribution systems and connection components.
- Experience with power safety standards and agency approvals for power connectors, cables, and cable assemblies.
- Basic FEA simulation skills in mechanical, mold-flow, and thermal analysis.
- Familiarity with quality tools such as FMEA, 6 Sigma, DOE, and 8D is a plus.
Critical Experience:
- Over 10 years of experience in new product development roles.
- More than 5 years of experience specifically in developing connectors, cables, or cable assemblies.
- A background in connector design, particularly Power/Industrial/Automotive connectors, is beneficial.
- Required experience in power distribution inter/intra systems.
- This is a highly technical role requiring independent work capabilities.
- Experience with product compliance certification (Product, Safety, Environmental Substance Control).
- Experience in Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA), Design for Cost (DFC), and Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
