Sr. Manager

As a leader within LinkedIn's esteemed Infrastructure engineering team in Bengaluru, India, you will spearhead the Reliability Infrastructure charter. This pivotal role involves building next-generation reliability platforms and systemic resilience solutions to protect LinkedIn's most critical Online Data and Streaming Services. You will collaborate with industry-leading engineers, applying your deep expertise in distributed systems and operational excellence to fortify the foundations that drive our member and revenue experiences. Leveraging extensive knowledge of OLTP databases (like MySQL), streaming systems (such as Kafka), and Kubernetes-powered compute infrastructure, you will architect automation-first systems, enhance observability, implement intelligent autoscaling and self-healing mechanisms, and proactively conduct chaos testing to maintain global SLAs. This role aims to significantly reduce incident detection and mitigation times, while accelerating AI-native engineering practices to revolutionize reliability development and operations at LinkedIn, delivering lasting, company-wide impact across our data and streaming backbone. LinkedIn's legacy includes pioneering widely adopted open-source projects like Apache Kafka, Pinot, Azkaban, Samza, Venice, DataHub, and Feather, and we continue to innovate with industry-standard technologies including Kubernetes, gRPC, and GraphQL. Responsibilities:

• Lead and mentor a team of engineers, managing their performance and career development.
• Take ownership of critical LinkedIn product components, contributing to their design, architecture, and coding.
• Collaborate with senior management to shape the long-term technology roadmap.
• Serve as a professional role model and coach for engineers, fostering a proactive approach and a commitment to craftsmanship.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to support and leverage a unified technical stack.
• Guide teams in scaling distributed applications, making strategic architectural trade-offs using synchronous and asynchronous design patterns, conducting code reviews, and ensuring timely, high-quality delivery.
• Develop robust, scalable, high-volume, and reliable user-centric applications designed for 24x7 operation.
• Produce high-quality software through unit testing, code reviews, and regular continuous integration check-ins.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• A minimum of 14 years in software design, development, and large-scale software engineering.
• At least 3 years of experience in software engineering/technical management and people management.
• Proficiency in object-oriented and/or functional programming languages (e.g., Java, C++, Scala).
• Hands-on experience in developing distributed systems, databases, large-scale data systems, and/or Backend APIs.
• Experience with OLTP databases (e.g., MySQL, Postgres, Oracle), Streaming services (e.g., Kafka, Northguard, Spark), Big Data, and Distributed systems. Demonstrated ability to integrate AI-first practices across the SDLC.

Preferred Qualifications:

• A Master's or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
• Over 4 years of software engineering management experience.
• More than 2 years of experience managing managers.
