Superbench is seeking a Senior Full-Stack AI Engineer to play a pivotal, hands-on role in the development and evolution of our cutting-edge AI-powered platform. Collaborating closely with product management and leadership, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and deploying intelligent, customer-facing features that harness the latest advancements in artificial intelligence.

This position is ideally suited for a seasoned engineer with extensive experience in deploying AI solutions in production, particularly in constructing complex, multi-step, and multi-agent workflows. You should be equally adept at navigating the full-stack development landscape. Your contributions will be crucial in transforming abstract product concepts into dependable, scalable systems, with a paramount focus on delivering tangible user value through AI.

You will contribute across our backend, frontend, and AI systems, taking ownership of features from inception to completion while partnering with fellow engineers to uphold the highest standards of code quality, performance, and user experience.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and implement AI-driven product features, including sophisticated conversational interfaces, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines, and intricate multi-step/multi-agent AI workflows.
• Take full ownership of the implementation of backend and frontend systems throughout the Superbench platform.
• Translate product requirements into robust, scalable technical solutions, with a particular emphasis on AI-centric use cases.
• Engage in hands-on development across the entire technology stack: Node.js/TypeScript and Python for backend services, and React for frontend applications.
• Integrate Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI tooling into production environments, ensuring exceptional reliability, performance, and user experience.
• Develop and maintain essential APIs, services, and data pipelines that underpin our AI functionalities.
• Collaborate intensely with product and design teams to facilitate rapid iteration cycles for AI-driven features.
• Champion and contribute to engineering best practices in areas such as testing, code quality, and system reliability.
• Actively participate in code reviews and foster knowledge sharing within the engineering team.

About the Role & Requirements:

We are actively searching for a Lead Engineer who is eager to tackle complex challenges, assume comprehensive ownership of our technology stack, and make critical technical decisions that propel Superbench forward. While this role is fully remote, candidates must reside within a 3-hour time difference of the Singapore Time Zone (SGT) due to the location of our headquarters and key stakeholders.

Must-Have Qualifications:

• Minimum of 6 years of professional software engineering experience, with a significant emphasis on building production-grade systems.
• A minimum of 4 years of backend engineering experience, primarily utilizing Node.js frameworks (such as Express, NestJS) and modern TypeScript.
• A minimum of 2 years of frontend engineering experience, building user-facing applications with React.
• At least 2 years of practical experience in developing and integrating AI systems into production applications.
• A deep and comprehensive understanding of JavaScript and TypeScript.
• Strong expertise in designing and constructing scalable backend systems, APIs, and microservices.
• Proven experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL), including schema design and query optimization.
• Hands-on experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB).
• A minimum of 2 years of hands-on Python experience, particularly for AI workflows, data processing, or backend service development.
• Extensive experience in building AI-powered customer-facing features, including:
  • Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines
  • Multi-step and/or multi-agent AI workflows
  • Effective prompt design, evaluation, and iteration strategies
  • Development and implementation of tool-using agents and orchestration frameworks
• Practical experience with AI frameworks and tools like the OpenAI SDK, LangGraph, MCP, or similar technologies.
• Hands-on experience with vector databases (e.g., Pinecone or equivalent solutions).
• Demonstrated success in integrating complex AI workflows into live, user-facing products.
• Exceptional problem-solving abilities and the capacity to thrive in ambiguous or evolving environments.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications:

• Experience within early-stage startups or fast-paced product development environments.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., Google Cloud Platform - GCP), CI/CD pipelines, and fundamental DevOps practices.
• Experience with event-driven architectures, background job processing, or message queue systems.
• Experience in developing real-time or conversational systems (e.g., chat applications, messaging platforms, workflow automation tools).
• Exposure to analytics, data pipelines, or reporting systems.
• Experience working with multi-tenant SaaS platforms.
• Familiarity with security best practices, authentication/authorization mechanisms, and data privacy considerations.
• Experience working effectively in remote or distributed team settings.

Interview Process Overview:

1. Initial Fit & Screening (20-30 mins): A conversation with our CEO to understand your background and aspirations. This includes a high-level review of your experience, technical depth, interest in Superbench and early-stage roles, and cultural alignment.
2. Take-Home Assessment (3-4 hours): A practical, real-world project designed to evaluate your problem-solving skills, architectural design, code quality, effective AI integration, and decision-making across both backend and frontend development. This simulates the challenges you'll encounter at Superbench. We value clear articulation of trade-offs over absolute perfection.
3. Technical Deep Dive (90 mins): A live technical session with our CTO to thoroughly review your take-home submission. This involves a deep dive into your implementation and architectural choices, exploring backend, frontend, and AI-related decisions, potential improvements, alternatives, and trade-offs, potentially including live problem-solving or solution extensions.
4. Leadership & Fit Interview (45-60 mins): A final conversation with our Chief Product Officer (CPO) focusing on leadership qualities, ownership mindset, and long-term compatibility. This session will cover your past roles, key decisions, lessons learned, and how you lead, mentor, and make technical judgments in uncertain situations. We will also align on expectations and define success metrics for the role.
