Sr Developer

Mattel is seeking a Senior Developer - AI Application Backend to join our team in Hyderabad, Telangana. This role is pivotal in designing, building, and scaling AI-driven backend systems, focusing on production-grade applications and cloud-native solutions on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

You will be instrumental in developing backend services that power AI applications, integrating Large Language Models (LLMs) and Machine Learning (ML) models, and building scalable APIs. Collaboration with AI engineers, data scientists, frontend developers, and DevOps teams is key to delivering intelligent, reliable, and high-performance backend services. The ideal candidate possesses strong expertise in Python and GCP, with hands-on experience in building AI-enabled systems, scalable APIs, and distributed systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and develop backend services for AI-driven applications.
• Integrate LLMs, ML models, or AI services into production systems.
• Build RESTful APIs and microservices using Python frameworks like FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
• Implement RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) pipelines and AI orchestration workflows.
• Optimize AI inference performance, latency, and reliability.
• Design and deploy AI backend services on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), utilizing services such as BigQuery, Cloud Run, Cloud Functions, Compute Engine, GKE, Cloud Storage, and Vertex AI (preferred).
• Ensure scalability, monitoring, and fault tolerance of cloud applications.
• Implement robust security practices and manage IAM policies.
• Develop data pipelines to support AI models and analytics.
• Integrate backend systems with third-party APIs and enterprise applications.
• Work with SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, BigQuery).
• Containerize applications using Docker and deploy/manage services using Kubernetes (GKE preferred).
• Implement CI/CD pipelines using tools like GitHub Actions, Cloud Build, or Jenkins.
• Monitor application health and performance with logging and observability tools.
• Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, write clean code, conduct peer reviews, and troubleshoot production issues.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and continuous improvement initiatives.

Technical Skill Set:

• Programming: Advanced Python, SQL.
• Frameworks: FastAPI, Flask, Django, Async programming (asyncio).
• Cloud: Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Vertex AI (preferred), BigQuery, Cloud Run, GKE.
• DevOps: Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, Git.
• AI/ML: LLM integrations, RAG pipelines, prompt engineering basics, embedding & vector databases (Pinecone, FAISS, etc.).

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 5.5 to 9 years of backend development experience.
• Strong proficiency in Python and hands-on GCP experience.
• Proven experience building scalable backend systems and APIs, with knowledge of microservices architecture.
• Solid understanding of REST APIs and asynchronous programming.
• Experience with SQL-based databases and containerization (Docker).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with AI/ML frameworks (LangChain, Hugging Face, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
• Experience with Vertex AI or other GCP AI services.
• Experience building LLM-based applications (RAG, Agents, embeddings).
• Familiarity with message queues (Pub/Sub, Kafka).
• Knowledge of MLOps best practices.
• GCP certification (Professional Cloud Developer / Data Engineer / ML Engineer).
• Experience in high-scale, enterprise-grade AI systems.
