About The Role

Porch Group is seeking an experienced Senior Database Engineer/ Architect to design, implement, and manage our data architectures across GCP and Azure.

Your Responsibilities:

• Data Architecture & Design: Collaborate with software, systems, and DevOps engineers to design data architectures for business, analytics, software, and data science teams.
• Platform Optimization: Balance operational excellence, security, reliability, performance efficiency, and cost optimization while influencing the architecture of key data platforms.
• Maintenance & Operations: Support day-to-day operations, tuning, and optimization of production database systems (SQL Server, PostgreSQL).
• AWS/GCP/Azure Management: Manage, patch, upgrade, and monitor databases on GCP (Cloud SQL) and Azure (Azure Database for PostgreSQL/SQL Server), including backup/recovery and high-availability configurations.
• Data Warehouse Design: Design, manage, and monitor BigQuery data warehouses in GCP, handling schema design, query optimization, and cost/slot management.
• IaC & CI/CD: Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform. Support CI/CD workflows for database changes and infrastructure deployments via Git/Azure DevOps.

Your Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of hands-on ownership of production database platforms.
• Proficiency with BigQuery, Compute Engine, Cloud SQL (PostgreSQL/SQL Server) on GCP and Azure Database services.
• Experience with high availability, disaster recovery, backup/restore, and performance tuning.
• Working knowledge of Git, CI/CD tooling, SSIS/Dataflow/Dataproc.
• Ability to communicate effectively across various stakeholders and work within Agile methodologies.

Work Requirements:

This role requires support for US-based business teams. You must be able to work core Eastern Standard Time (EST) hours with a 4-hour overlap window (7:30pm–11:30pm IST). A quiet, dedicated workspace and reliable internet are required.
