Navan is seeking a highly skilled Staff Android Engineer to play a pivotal role as a technical architect within our mobile ecosystem. This position offers the opportunity to tackle organization-wide technical challenges, with a strategic focus on high-level system architecture, cross-platform strategy, and technical leadership. You will be instrumental in ensuring our mobile platform scales effectively to support a growing engineering team and intricate global travel requirements seamlessly.

What You’ll Do:

• Drive the Vision: Collaborate with engineering and product leadership to define, plan, and execute the long-term technical roadmap for the Android platform.
• Architect Scalable Systems: Develop frameworks and modularization strategies that significantly enhance developer velocity and user experience.
• Lead Through Influence: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to mobile engineers across multiple teams.
• Resolve Systemic Debt: Identify and address technical debt at an organizational level, guiding teams in the safe adoption of new technologies.
• Optimize Developer Experience: Enhance CI/CD pipelines and Gradle build performance to support a large-scale engineering organization.
• Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner with Product and Sales teams to deliver impactful features that align with global business objectives.

What We’re Looking For:

• 8-10 years of software engineering experience, with a strong emphasis on large-scale distributed mobile systems.
• Architectural Mastery: Proven ability to transform ambiguous problem spaces into clear, scalable architectural solutions.
• Deep Systems Knowledge: Expertise in advanced Android concepts including bytecode manipulation, custom Gradle plugins, and complex threading models.
• Leadership: Demonstrated capability to influence and align technical and cross-functional teams.
• Modern Ecosystem: Extensive experience with the modern Android development stack (Kotlin, Compose, Coroutines) and cloud-based mobile infrastructure.
• Problem Solver: Aptitude for innovative problem-solving in high-volume, enterprise-grade applications.
• Strategic Thinking: Experience in designing mobile architectures that accommodate global localization, accessibility, and high-performance data synchronization.
• Innovation Mindset: Ability to leverage AI development tools such as Cursor and Copilot to accelerate the mobile SDLC while adhering to stringent quality standards.
