Full Job Description

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) in Livermore, CA, is seeking highly skilled Spacecraft Systems Engineers to provide critical subject matter expertise for advanced space payloads and sophisticated spacecraft models. This role is integral to supporting national security missions through in-depth technical analysis, effective project management, and the development of innovative solutions within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. The ideal candidate will operate with significant autonomy, leveraging advanced knowledge and judgment to define objectives, prioritize tasks, manage resources, and drive the development of new methods and technologies. Responsibilities include providing expert-level support in various spacecraft subsystems such as attitude and orbital controls, propulsion, electrical power systems, avionics, data handling, thermal management, structures, telemetry, tracking, and control (TT&C), RF communications, and advanced payloads like synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and electro-optical (EO). Comprehensive analyses of spacecraft performance, direct collaboration with management and external sponsors, and clear communication of technical milestones are essential. Candidates will also be expected to prepare technical reports, presentations, and peer-reviewed papers, and contribute to intelligence community analysis. A key aspect of this role involves working within a Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) environment, requiring appropriate security protocols and adherence to U.S. Citizenship requirements. This position offers a hybrid work arrangement and the opportunity to mentor junior team members, develop advanced engineering solutions for complex programmatic issues, analyze spacecraft constellation performance, and shape strategic planning for space program activities. The role demands proactive engagement with U.S. Government sponsors and technology leaders to advance national security missions in space systems.
