Space Mechanisms Engineer
Full Job Description
Catalyx Space, a leader in space technology solutions based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, is seeking a skilled Space Mechanisms Engineer specializing in Deployable Structures. This full-time, on-site role is crucial for the design, development, and testing of deployable structures and related mechanisms for spacecraft and entry systems. The engineer will be instrumental in creating reliable hold-down and release mechanisms (HDRMs) and supporting mechanism test campaigns, including vibration, thermal vacuum, and deployment testing. Collaboration with avionics and systems teams for actuator and sensor integration is key. The primary goal is to deliver flight-ready deployable hardware. Essential qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering, 2-5 years of experience with spacecraft deployable structures and mechanisms, hands-on expertise in design elements like hinges, latches, and HDRMs, strong GD&T (ASME Y14.5) knowledge, DFM, and experience with design for additive manufacturing. Proficiency in SolidWorks for layout and linkage design, tolerance stack-up analysis, and modeling complex joints is required. Experience with vibration testing and analysis of mechanisms, creating CMM probing-area descriptions, and knowledge of surface treatment processes are also vital. Familiarity with ANSYS or similar CAE tools for structural, modal, and thermal analysis, along with exposure to testing and validation of deployable structures, is expected. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge space missions in Ahmedabad.
