Full Job Description
Catalyx Space is seeking a skilled Space Mechanisms Engineer specializing in Deployable Structures to join our innovative team in Ahmedabad, India. This role is pivotal in the design, development, and testing of advanced deployable structures and Hold-Down and Release Mechanisms (HDRMs) for spacecraft and entry systems. You will be instrumental in ensuring the reliable deployment of critical hardware in the challenging environment of space.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop deployable structures and their associated mechanisms.
- Develop and qualify HDRMs for various spacecraft subsystems.
- Support and execute mechanism testing campaigns, including vibration, thermal vacuum (TVAC), and deployment tests.
- Collaborate closely with avionics and systems engineering teams for seamless actuator and sensor integration.
- Deliver fully tested, flight-ready deployable hardware solutions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience with spacecraft deployable structures and mechanisms.
- Proficiency in mechanism design, including experience with hinges, latches, and HDRMs.
- Strong expertise in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) adhering to ASME Y14.5 standards, Design for Manufacturing (DFM), and Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM).
- Experience with SolidWorks layout design, linkage analysis, or equivalent mechanism design software.
- Solid understanding of tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Experience in modeling complex joints within deployable or flexible structures.
- Proven experience with vibration testing and analysis of mechanical systems.
- Expertise in creating Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) probing area descriptions for part inspection and validation.
- Deep experience with coatings, plating, and other surface treatment processes relevant to aerospace components.
- Strong experience utilizing ANSYS or similar CAE packages for structural, modal, and thermal analysis.
- Exposure to the testing and validation of deployable structures in an aerospace context.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with the intricacies of complex spacecraft deployable structures.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver flight heritage hardware.
- Background in algorithmic or generative design methodologies for mechanisms.
- Proven ability to thrive and contribute effectively in a fast-paced, test-driven engineering environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration and reporting.
- Flexibility and willingness to work extended hours and/or weekends as project demands require.
