Software Research Engineer I

About the Role

We are looking for a Software Research Engineer I to help build and evaluate CUA (Computer Use Agents) models trained to operate real software and complete computer-based tasks like a skilled engineer would. You must be fluent with AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor, possessing well-developed best practices for their use.

Key Responsibilities

• Own complex, long-running technical workflows end to end: implementation, validation, documentation, and follow-through.
• Design and maintain tasks, benchmarks, and test suites that measure CUA capability as models, APIs, and infrastructure evolve.
• Hold an exacting bar for code quality; write tests; use deployment strategies like canary releases and rollbacks with a strong sense of risk management.
• Maintain sharp eyes for weak implementations; provide blunt, direct feedback (and receive it).
• Apply strong debugging and experimental discipline to investigate discrepancies across the CUA stack and turn ambiguous findings into reproducible conclusions.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field with 2+ years of Python experience (highly proficient).
• A passion for coding since childhood with a drive to dive deep into technology.
• Familiarity with deployment strategies like canary releases and rollbacks, plus strong risk management skills.
• Proficiency in one or more languages: Rust, Python, or TypeScript.
• Experience maintaining benchmarks/test suites while underlying models/APIs/infrastructure evolve.
• Skill in server-side or infrastructure development with a track record of building highly available systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in a related field.
• Prior FAANG or Big Tech experience.

Benefits & Location

Location: Remote [USA]. Salary Range: $93,600 - $145,000 annually. Factors affecting pay include geography/market, skills, education, and experience.
