Software Engineer
Location: Remote (India-based)Compensation: ₹12,00,000 - ₹18,00,000 per annumAbout the Role
We are hiring a Software Engineer to build and run the platform our journalism lives on. Media engineering is unglamorous in a way that matters: A story is worth nothing if the page takes six seconds to load, search does not find it, or analytics cannot tell us whether anyone read it.
You will own the systems that determine whether our work reaches people: the publishing platform, delivery layer, tooling for editors, and data behind coverage. Most of your work will be backend (services/APIs, content models, performance/reliability), with a significant research/data side tracking companies, funding rounds, investors, and markets.
- Build and maintain the backend services and APIs for our publishing platform.
- Own site performance: page speed, caching, delivery optimization (Core Web Vitals).
- Create internal tools for editors/researchers to write, publish, and manage coverage.
- Design data models covering companies, founders, investors, funding rounds, acquisitions, industries, financial markets.
- Build systems to organize/structure business and financial data over time.
- Develop analytics/reporting on readership, discovery, and content performance.
- Integrate external services/APIs/data sources/platforms.
- Maintain reliable data pipelines improving research/editorial workflows.
You Will Need
Required:
- 2 to 5 years of professional software engineering experience with production systems shipped and maintained.
- Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, databases, and software design.
- Proficiency in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, Go, or a comparable modern language.
- Solid backend experience: REST APIs, relational DBs, server-side frameworks.
- Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows.
- Strong debugging instincts; ability to write maintainable code.
- Clear communication skills for non-engineer audiences (editors/researchers).
Nice to Have:
- CMS/publishing platform/media company experience.
- Web performance expertise: caching, CDN configuration, technical SEO.
- Search/retrieval experience: full-text search, indexing, ranking, recommendation systems.
- Analytics instrumentation and reporting pipeline experience.
- Data pipeline maintenance experience.
- Cloud experience (AWS/GCP/Azure), Docker/CI-CD, third-party API integration.
