Role Overview

DigitalOcean is seeking a Software Engineer II to join our App Platform and Functions engineering team. This role focuses on building scalable, high-reliability systems for customers deploying modern applications and AI workloads.

Your Responsibilities

  • Build & Extend: Implement features in Go within established architectural patterns to support a multi-tenant platform.
  • Control Plane & APIs: Contribute to gRPC/HTTP APIs, reconciliation loops, and lifecycle workflows for customer apps at scale.
  • Kubernetes Runtime: Improve how workloads are scheduled, isolated, observed, and healed using Kubernetes-backed infrastructure.
  • Serverless & Scale: Optimize Functions runtime behavior including cold-start performance and event-driven workload reliability.
  • Operate What You Build: Participate in on-call rotations to investigate production issues and develop ownership of services.

What We Are Looking For

  • Experience: 2–4 years of software engineering experience shipping production services.
  • Languages: Proficiency in Go or a strong background in another typed systems language (C++, Rust) with ability to ramp quickly.
  • Kubernetes Familiarity: Working knowledge of Deployments, Services, Controllers/Operators, networking basics; hands-on experience is a plus.
  • Systems Thinking: Understanding distributed systems concepts like replication, failure modes, and reconciliation loops.
  • Cloud Native: Experience with containerized environments, microservices, SQL databases (MySQL/Postgres), and gRPC.

Nice to Have

Prior experience with Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, Prometheus-based observability, or service mesh technologies is highly valued. Experience in Hyderabad or comfort working within the local tech ecosystem is also beneficial for this role.
