About the Role

We're hiring a Software Engineer II, Frontend to own the design, quality, and delivery of features across our student-facing web applications. This role is focused on building React/Next.js product experiences, the GraphQL-powered data layers behind them, and increasingly, AI-powered study features (step-by-step solutions, Q&A, and personalized study assistance). You will also contribute across the stack as needed — this is a frontend-first role with full-stack reach.

What You'll Do

• Own frontend features end-to-end including architecture, implementation, testing, staged rollout, and production monitoring.
• Translate product requirements into component architecture, GraphQL query/schema boundaries, and client-state contracts using React Query or Redux Toolkit.
• Debug cross-system issues by tracing root cause across the stack.
• Build AI-powered study features responsibly: validate model output before it reaches the UI, design graceful fallbacks for unusable responses, and instrument these flows with telemetry.
• Apply security and data-protection practices as a default part of your code.
• Optimize application performance (rendering strategy, bundle size, Core Web Vitals).
• Partner closely with Product, Design, and Backend to deliver high-impact student workflows like search, Q&A, subscription/paywall flows, and study tools.

Required Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional frontend engineering experience building production web applications.
• Strong hands-on experience with React, Next.js, and TypeScript.
• Knowledge of web fundamentals including security pitfalls (XSS, CSRF), performance optimization, and accessibility standards like WCAG/ARIA.
• Experience designing and consuming APIs across common paradigms such as GraphQL and REST, along with client-state approaches like React Query or Redux Toolkit.
