Software Engineer I - Site Reliability Engineer

Electronic Arts is seeking a talented Software Engineer I to join our Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team in Hyderabad / Secunderabad, Telangana, India. This role involves contributing to the design, automation, and operation of large-scale, cloud-based systems that power EA's global gaming platform. You will collaborate with senior engineers to enhance service reliability, scalability, and performance across our diverse game studios and services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, deploy, and maintain scalable, distributed, cloud-based infrastructure using modern open-source technologies like AWS, GCP, Azure, Kubernetes, and Terraform.
  • Automate platform operations through scripting, tools, and workflows to minimize manual effort, boost system reliability, and optimize infrastructure, focusing on reducing Mean Time To Detect (MTTD) and Mean Time To Repair (MTTR).
  • Create and maintain comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and metrics dashboards to enhance system visibility and proactively identify potential issues. Participate actively in on-call rotations, incident response, and root cause analysis.
  • Contribute to the design, implementation, and upkeep of Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines to ensure consistent and reliable deployments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to pinpoint reliability bottlenecks, define Service Level Indicators (SLIs), Service Level Objectives (SLOs), and Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and implement improvements to bolster the stability and performance of production services.
  • Engage in post-incident reviews, document key learnings, and help develop preventive measures to avert future production issues. Maintain up-to-date operational documentation and runbooks.
  • Work closely with senior SREs and software engineers to gain deep insights into large-scale systems, adopt industry best practices, and gradually assume responsibility for more complex systems and initiatives.
  • Actively participate in modernization efforts by identifying opportunities for enhancement in automation, monitoring, and overall system reliability.

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of experience in cloud computing (AWS preferred), virtualization, and containerization technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, and/or VMWare. Extensive hands-on experience with container orchestration, including EKS and Kubernetes.
  • Proven experience supporting production-grade, high-availability systems with defined SLIs/SLOs.
  • Solid understanding of Linux/Unix administration and fundamental networking concepts (protocols, load balancing, DNS, firewalls).
  • Practical experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation tools like Terraform, Helm, Ansible, or Chef.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Golang, Bash, or Java.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools including Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, or Datadog.
  • Exposure to distributed systems, SQL/NoSQL databases, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and collaborative skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
