Software Engineer

About the Role

Join PayPal's Data Discovery team as a Software Engineer in Chennai, India, and play a key role in implementing tasks within the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). You will contribute to building high-quality web applications, developing reusable, efficient, and scalable code, and designing and managing APIs and microservices. This role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and deliver scalable solutions that meet performance, security, and scalability standards. You'll be involved in troubleshooting, debugging, and optimizing existing codebases, staying updated with emerging technologies, and recommending improvements.

Creativity and out-of-the-box thinking are essential for this role. You will proactively anticipate problems, communicate them effectively to the team and management, and be flexible in supporting all aspects of the product lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and deploy high-quality web applications.
• Build reusable, efficient, and scalable code.
• Design and manage APIs and microservices.
• Integrate front-end elements with server-side logic.
• Ensure applications meet performance, security, and scalability standards.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize existing codebases.
• Stay updated with emerging technologies and recommend improvements.

• Be flexible and support all functions of the product lifecycle.

What We're Looking For

• 1+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 2 - 4 years of experience in the IT industry; experience in the Data Technology space is preferred.
• Proficiency in Front-End technologies: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+), React.js / Angular / Vue.js.
• Proficiency in Back-End technologies: Node.js, Express.js, Java / Spring Boot, Python / Django, or .NET.
• Experience with Databases: SQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis).
• Experience with Version Control: Git, GitHub/GitLab/Bitbucket.
• Experience with DevOps/Cloud: Docker, Kubernetes, AWS / Azure / GCP.
• Experience with APIs: RESTful, GraphQL.
• Experience with Testing: Unit, integration, and automated testing frameworks (e.g., Jest, Mocha, JUnit).
• Strong skills in cloud platforms (GCP/AWS/Azure).
• Strong analytical skills, including the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Experience with File Systems, server architectures, and distributed systems.
• Strong communication skills and willingness to take initiative.
• Working experience in an Agile methodology is highly preferred.
• Knowledge and working experience on Cloud platforms is highly preferred.
• Knowledge in identifying use cases for AI and LLMs.
• Keen interest in embracing open-source technology for data governance products.
• Contribution to open-source projects is a plus.
• Background in UI/UX design principles.
• Experience using LLMs for development if required.
