Backend Engineer (Coding Agent Experience) – AI Research & Evaluation

Synthires is seeking experienced Backend Engineers to join our team in evaluating advanced AI coding models. This part-time contract role focuses on assessing AI-generated backend implementations for correctness, quality, maintainability, scalability, and performance. You will use frontier AI coding agents to complete and review complex engineering tasks, identify bugs, and provide structured feedback to improve AI-driven solutions.

• Use AI coding agents (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code, Codex) to complete and evaluate backend engineering tasks.
• Review AI-generated code for technical accuracy, architectural tradeoffs, and real-world applicability.
• Collaborate with technical reviewers to maintain consistent evaluation standards.
• Apply expertise in REST APIs, distributed systems, and cloud-based architectures to assess AI model outputs.
• Contribute to improving AI coding agent reliability and performance through structured feedback.

Required Qualifications:

• 2+ years of professional backend engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in backend technologies (Python, Java, Go, Node.js, C#).
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and distributed systems.
• Ability to evaluate AI-generated code for edge cases, security, and scalability.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with large-scale production systems.
• CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes, and mentoring backend engineers.
• Prior AI model evaluation or code review projects.

Compensation: Competitive hourly rate of $85/hour with weekly payments. This is an independent contractor role.
