Software Engineer

Role Overview

We are seeking a Backend Software Engineer (Level 4) for our Los Angeles, CA office. This role focuses on designing, implementing, operating, and scaling critical distributed services within Snapchat's ecosystem of visual communication platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and operate scalable backend services including user identity systems, friend graph infrastructure, and core persistence layers.
• Cross-functional collaboration to evaluate trade-offs and deliver innovative product solutions.
• Maintain high quality through rigorous testing, debugging, and adherence to best practices in availability, security, and cost management.

Technical Requirements

• Proven experience with distributed systems, microservices architecture, cloud computing (AWS/Google Cloud), infrastructure design, networking, or ML/NLP tools.
• Demonstrated proficiency in leveraging AI coding assistants to accelerate development while maintaining strict architectural integrity and security standards.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience with 2+ years of post-graduate software development (or Master's/PhD equivalents).

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Java, C++, Python, NoSQL databases (Memcache/Redis), and container orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
