Software Engineer

Smith+Nephew is seeking a passionate and experienced Software Engineer specializing in Android Mobile Development for their Pune, India location. This role involves the development of rapid proof-of-concept prototypes and production-level mobile code for surgical navigation applications on Android devices. Responsibilities include contributing to software architectural design, ensuring cybersecurity considerations, and taking accountability for the entire software lifecycle from requirements to testing. The ideal candidate will build automation frameworks, support debugging, and champion quality-first practices, adhering to IEC 62304 design control functions. Key requirements include a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field or equivalent hands-on experience, a minimum of 2 years of Android development using Kotlin with libraries and services, experience with testing methodologies, and familiarity with modern mobile architectural patterns. Experience with Python/Shell scripting, CI/CD tools, and working in regulated environments such as medical devices is highly advantageous. Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills are essential.
