Join Amazon's E-reader platform team, where you'll contribute to building a highly efficient operating system for E-readers. This team is responsible for the C/C++ operating system stack and low-level components that ensure devices achieve exceptional battery life, lasting for weeks. Our recent launch of the Kindle Scribe, a larger device that supports both reading and note-taking, highlights our innovation. The Amazon Kindle boasts a unique software stack optimized for a superior reading experience, characterized by weeks of battery life and smooth page turns, allowing customers to fully immerse themselves in their books.

As a Software Development Manager on this team, you will own a charter related to Kindle E-readers. Your responsibilities will include partnering with multiple development teams to maintain and deliver new features. You will also strategize and track the implementation of enablers within the Kindle stack to simplify the addition of new applications on the device.

This role demands deep technical expertise, a strong desire to learn, and the ability to solve complex and ambiguous problems across the Amazon Kindle operating system.

A Day in the Life:

In this role, you will collaborate with experienced, cross-disciplinary staff to conceive a secure, performant, and developer-friendly operating system for Amazon Kindle E-readers. Your key activities will include:

• Owning a charter within the E-reader division, establishing a team structure, and developing a long-term roadmap.
• Collaborating with key stakeholders in product management and executive teams to define strategy and requirements.
• Leading cross-functional development efforts for the Kindle E-reader operating system, from design through to delivery.
• Working with remote teams to deliver supporting software within launch timelines.
• Communicating regularly with senior management regarding status, risks, and change control.

Basic Qualifications

• 7+ years of engineering experience.
• 3+ years of engineering team management experience.
• 8+ years of experience leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services.
• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and live-site operations.
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams.
• Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy.
• Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching, and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills and make them more effective product software engineers.
