Our team focuses on the C/C++ operating system stack and low-level components that ensure devices have exceptional battery life, enabling weeks of usage. We recently launched the Kindle Scribe, a larger device that enhances the reading experience with note-taking capabilities.

Key Job Responsibilities:

As a Software Development Manager (SDM) on this team, you will own a specific charter related to Kindle E-reader development. You will collaborate with multiple development teams to maintain and deliver new features. Additionally, you will strategize and implement enablers within the Kindle stack to simplify the addition of new applications on the device.

This role demands deep technical expertise, a proactive learning attitude, and the ability to solve complex and ambiguous problems across the Amazon Kindle operating system.

A Day in the Life:

In this role, you will collaborate with experienced cross-disciplinary teams to conceptualize a secure, performant, and developer-friendly operating system for Amazon Kindle E-readers. Your responsibilities will include:

• Owning a charter within the E-reader division, establishing team structure, and developing a long-term roadmap.
• Partnering with product management and executive teams to define strategy and requirements.
• Leading cross-functional development for the Kindle E-reader operating system, from design through delivery.
• Collaborating with remote teams to deliver supporting software within launch timelines.
• Providing regular status updates, risk assessments, and change control information to senior management.

Basic Qualifications

• 7+ years of engineering experience.
• 3+ years of engineering team management experience.
• 8+ years of experience leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services.
• Proficiency in engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and live-site operations.
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams.
• Experience designing or architecting new and existing systems (design patterns, reliability, and scaling).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to gather requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy.
• Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring, coaching, and managing teams of Software Engineers to enhance their skills and effectiveness as product software engineers.
