Software Development Engineer, Kindle Reader - Chennai, Tamil Nadu

Amazon is seeking exceptional and motivated software engineers to join the Kindle Reader organization in Chennai. This role offers a challenging opportunity to innovate the reading experience on Kindle mobile devices and services for millions of Amazon customers. You will collaborate with world-class engineers, business leaders, and other talented engineering teams to design, architect, and code for Kindle Reader iOS and Android apps, as well as E-Reader software. You will be part of a team developing a platform that enables many other Amazon partner teams to innovate their reader experiences.

As a software engineer, you will contribute to key architectural decisions for Kindle Library, cross-OS development, app UX, and service integrations to deliver an outstanding reader experience. About the team:

The team focuses on:

• The foundational technology stack for syncing and storing structured annotations, such as text sticky notes, highlights, and bookmarks.
• Sync Customer Experience (CX) features like Most Recent Page Read (MRPR) and Furthest Page Read (FPR).
• The core sync architecture designed to be a federated, scalable, and plug-and-play service for any Kindle and Books feature requiring synchronization.
• Notetaking Sync: The backend for handwritten notetaking (e.g., via Kindle Scribe), supporting handwritten note sync and storage, data integrity, privacy/security, and architectural enhancements.

Basic Qualifications:

• 3+ years of professional software development experience (excluding internships).
• 2+ years of experience in designing or architecting new and existing systems, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling.
• Proficiency in at least one software programming language.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3+ years of experience with the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
