Full Job Description
About the Role
Amazon Time & Pay Innovation (T&PA) is seeking skilled Software Development Engineers to join a greenfield project. You will build large-scale, intelligent products and services with a consumer-grade user experience using a service-oriented architecture and native AWS components. Our mission is to create world-class time systems that are intuitive, defect-free, and globally available to all Amazon employees across more than 25 countries and a dozen lines of business. We tackle complex, unsolved problems at Amazon scale, developing fundamentally improved ways for employees to record time and reduce pay defects. This role offers the excitement of an early-stage initiative combined with operational excellence, technical depth, and global impact.
Key Responsibilities
As a Software Development Engineer, you will take ownership of identifying and solving ambiguous problems. You will significantly influence architecture and design, and contribute critical-path code. You'll solve challenges at Amazon's massive scale, leveraging highly scalable AWS technologies such as Lambda, EMR, DynamoDB, S3, Kinesis, and ECS. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong leadership, excellent prioritization and communication skills, and a proven track record of delivering large-scale solutions. You will participate in all aspects of the agile software development lifecycle, including design, architecture, development, documentation, testing, and operations. You will drive end-to-end solutions through full-stack software development.
A Day in the Life
Your daily activities will involve designing, implementing, and testing software solutions using native AWS technologies. You'll collaborate with product managers and customers to define requirements for new features and system updates. You will partner with internal customers to translate complex business logic into reusable, scalable code. The role also includes periodic on-call support, coaching and mentoring junior engineers, and working alongside talented team members.
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of professional software development experience (excluding internships).
- 2+ years of experience in designing or architecting new and existing systems, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling.
- Experience programming in at least one software programming language.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in the full software development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
