About the Role
Amazon is seeking a talented and enthusiastic Software Development Engineer II (SDE2) to join the Digital Acceleration team in Chennai, India. This team is responsible for services that support the publishing, pricing, and purchase of digital content, including Kindle Books, Amazon AppStore, Amazon Music, and Amazon Video.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on scalable web services using cloud technologies, including exposure to Generative AI (Gen-AI) LLM technology. The work is highly visible to both Amazon customers and internal stakeholders.
As an SDE2, you will lead the architecture and development of high-scale web services and workflows within the Digital Pricing and Promotions team. You will design and build software solutions that power promotional capabilities across Amazon's Digital Acceleration (DA) businesses. Key responsibilities include owning and evolving critical platforms for promotional management, competitive pricing intelligence, and operational automation.
You will take ownership of key products, particularly the Promos UI platform, driving features from design through deployment and maintenance. This role involves full-stack development, including crafting user interfaces with modern web technologies, building robust backend services in Java on AWS, and integrating with Retail promotion systems like PLM (Promotion Lifecycle Management).
You will make architectural decisions balancing immediate business needs with long-term scalability and maintainability. This includes considering performance at scale, multi-business extensibility, and integration with diverse data sources and downstream services. Independent technical design leadership, active participation in design reviews, and providing substantive code review feedback are expected.
Collaboration is essential. You will work closely with operations teams, business stakeholders, Retail promotion platform teams, and partner engineering organizations. Developing a deep understanding of customer workflows and pain points to translate them into well-designed, reliable solutions is crucial. You will champion operational excellence through proactive monitoring, incident response, and identifying opportunities for automation and process improvement.
Beyond individual delivery, you will contribute to team growth by mentoring junior engineers, promoting development best practices, and driving technical improvements to enhance team velocity and reliability. Success is defined by consistently shipping high-quality features that advance promotional capabilities while setting a strong example for engineering craft and customer focus.

Basic Qualifications
- 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
- 2+ years of non-internship experience in designing or architecting new and existing systems (design patterns, reliability, and scaling).
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
