Software Development Engineer II - Digital Acceleration

Amazon is seeking a talented and enthusiastic Software Development Engineer to join the Digital Acceleration team in Chennai, India. This team is responsible for services that support the publishing, pricing, and purchase of digital content, including Kindle Books, Amazon AppStore, Amazon Music, and Amazon Video. The role offers an opportunity to work with scalable web services, cloud technologies, and Generative AI LLM technology, with highly visible work impacting Amazon customers and internal stakeholders.

As a Software Development Engineer II (SDE2) on the Digital Pricing and Promotions team, you will architect and develop high-scale web services and workflows. You will design and build software solutions for promotional capabilities across Amazon's Digital Acceleration businesses. Key responsibilities include owning and evolving critical platforms for promotional management, competitive pricing intelligence, and operational automation. You will take ownership of key products like the Promos UI platform, driving features from design to deployment and maintenance. This role involves full-stack development, including crafting user interfaces with modern web technologies, building robust backend services in Java on AWS, and integrating with Retail promotion systems.

You will make architectural decisions balancing immediate business needs with long-term scalability and maintainability, thinking across systems for performance, extensibility, and data integration. You will lead technical designs independently, participate in design reviews, and provide substantive code review feedback. Collaboration with operations, business stakeholders, and partner engineering organizations is crucial. You will gain a deep understanding of customer workflows and pain points to translate them into reliable solutions. Operational excellence through monitoring, incident response, and automation will be a key focus. Beyond individual delivery, you will contribute to team growth by mentoring junior engineers, improving development best practices, and driving technical improvements.

Basic Qualifications:

• 2+ years of professional software development experience (non-internship).
• 2+ years of experience in designing or architecting new and existing systems (design patterns, reliability, and scaling).
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 2+ years of experience across the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
