Software Development Engineer

Amazon is seeking a skilled Software Development Engineer II to join the Digital Acceleration team in Chennai, India. This team is responsible for services that support the publishing, pricing, and purchase of digital content, including Kindle Books, Amazon AppStore, Amazon Music, and Amazon Video. The role involves working with scalable web services, cloud technologies, and potentially Generative AI LLM technology, offering high visibility to customers and stakeholders.

As an SDE II on the Digital Pricing and Promotions team, you will design and develop software solutions that power promotional capabilities for Amazon's Digital Acceleration businesses. You will own and enhance platforms for promotional management, competitive pricing intelligence, and operational automation. This full-stack role requires UI development with modern web technologies and robust backend development in Java on AWS, integrating with systems like Promotion Lifecycle Management (PLM).

Key responsibilities include making architectural decisions for scalability and maintainability, thinking across systems for performance and extensibility, leading technical designs, and providing code review feedback. Collaboration with operations, business stakeholders, and partner engineering teams is essential. You will gain a deep understanding of customer workflows to build reliable solutions and champion operational excellence through monitoring, incident response, and automation.

Beyond individual contributions, you will mentor junior engineers, contribute to development best practices, and drive technical improvements to enhance team velocity and reliability. The ideal candidate will consistently deliver high-quality features, setting a strong example for engineering craft and customer focus.

Basic Qualifications: 2+ years of professional software development experience. 2+ years of experience in designing or architecting new and existing systems (design patterns, reliability, scaling). Experience with at least one programming language.

Preferred Qualifications: 2+ years of experience in the full software development lifecycle (coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, operations). Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
