The Apple Employee Systems team is seeking a Software Application Support Engineer with a proven track record in developing and managing high-quality enterprise software solutions. Our group is responsible for building and managing a suite of core application services for numerous applications, working alongside exceptional software engineers, dev-ops engineers, and technical project managers to make a difference for our customers.
To ensure our environment runs efficiently, we prioritize automation and build frameworks that enhance both the end-user experience and our team's manageability. Our team's direction is to drive for automation to ensure the highest level of reliability. You will work with cutting-edge technologies, including GenAI, OS X, iOS, Oracle, MongoDB, Restful web services, and web platform technologies such as Spring and Apache.
About the Role
The Employee Systems team is responsible for building employee-related business applications. As a generalist, you will be flexible in your roles while possessing in-depth knowledge of enterprise systems and platforms to build innovative applications and custom solutions serving all Apple Employees.
Responsibilities
- Engineer and maintain innovative software applications.
- Support operations and collaborate closely with development engineers on architectural design and implementation of complex features/fixes.
- Improve the performance, availability, scalability, and monitoring of all Employee Systems.
- Work closely with business partners, other engineering teams, quality assurance, and management.
- This is a hands-on support and coding role, requiring coordination with a global team.
- Uphold Apple's high standards for code quality and functional quality.
- Thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience supporting mission-critical production applications in an enterprise environment AND 3+ years of software development experience building highly scalable RESTful web services, or a combination thereof.
- Critical Java development, J2EE, and related experience.
- Demonstrable track record of using a logical debugging methodology to solve complex production issues in a customer-facing role.
- Strong and proven track record in incident management and configuration/change management.
- Strong knowledge of SOAP and RESTful web services.
- Knowledge of frameworks like Spring.
- Knowledge of messaging services like Kafka.
- Strong experience with monitoring tools such as Splunk, Nagios, AppDynamics, Dynatrace, or similar.
- Track record in troubleshooting complex problems with cross-functional teams and multiple stakeholders to resolve large-scale production issues.
- Knowledge of databases like Oracle and MongoDB, with the ability to understand SQL, query tuning, and database performance optimization.
- Basic understanding of DevOps processes.
- Working knowledge of source control software (SVN or Git).
- Experience with build and deployment tools, e.g., Maven, Gradle.
- Good oral and written English communication skills.
- Passion and inquisitiveness to solve everyday problems in innovative ways.
- Experience in leading strategic efforts for your team, acting as a technical mentor for junior members, and serving as a subject matter expert.
Preferred Qualifications
- Python development experience is a plus.
- Knowledge in workflow automation systems like Temporal (Autoflow) and Flink is a plus.
- Functional knowledge with HR and/or Payroll products such as Workday, Oracle HCM, Salesforce, PeopleSoft, SAP Success Factors, or ADP.
